Need a Long Beak
Madera Canyon, AZ - 25 Apr 2014 See on Google Maps
I signed up for a workshop with Arizona Highways to visit Madura Canyon in southern Arizona. There were hummingbirds everywhere. The technique used stands with off camera flashes so when you took a picture the little guys were lite up by four flashes. Thee were so many hummingbirds that we could set up our cameras and just wait for the hummingbirds to stop in front of us for a quick photo. Here a Broad Billed Hummingbird checks out a thistle. The shutter speed was pretty slow for the speed of the wings but the flash fired very fast and that stopped the wings.
