Ranger Falls

Highlands, NC - 06 Jun 2020      See on Google Maps

Deep in the woods is Ranger Falls - a small waterfall but very pretty. I took my tripod on the hike - at this waterfall the tripod was in the water and I was balanced on a log. The day was partially cloudy so I waited until a cloud came by - already set up on the tripod just required a press of the remote when the cloud came by.

Slowing the shutter speed makes the water softer and more fluid. To get to 1/6 of a second shutter speed I set the aperture very small (f18) to limit the light coming into the camera. Also ISO as low as possible. I still needed to slow things down so I used a neutral density filter which blocked 3 stops of light.
