Fishing

Llano, TX - 26 Feb 2012      See on Google Maps

I read about a Bald Eagle nest in Llano, TX which was not far from Austin, so decided to head up and see if I could snag any pictures. I arrived at a spot along a state highway where there were over 20 tripods set up - so it was easy to find the nest. I became tripod number 21 focusing on a large nest with two parents and two kids maybe 100 yards off the road. There was a low fence stopping us from getting closer than the road. Many pictures of the little eagles learning to fly and being fed. Several times we watched the parents leave and then return with food but never so we could track them. After four hours this eagle came back carrying a fish and it was on my side of the tripod line. My 100-400 did a great job catching the details from quite a distance.
