Purple Buds

Phoenix, AZ - 02 Jan 2020      See on Google Maps

In winter there are not a lot of colors in the desert - these old prickly pear buds were the exception. To remove the detail in the background I went all the way to 400mm and stepped back a bit. Even at 5.6 aperture the background was out of focus isolating the prickly pear. The ISO is higher to allow hand holding shutter speed of over 1/600 (need to be better than 1 over focal length) - 1/600 was high enough to remain sharp.
