Leaping Lemur

Berenty Reserve, Madagascar - 29 May 2022      See on Google Maps

While looking for lemur in the Berenty Reserve we crossed several dirt roads - the roads cut to farm sisal. The Verreaux's Sifaka lemur in the area liked to stay in the forest trees but had to cross the roads to move from one forest to the next. When they are on the ground they move on their hind legs by hopping - or dancing. Our guide would scout the lemur troops and guess where they would cross.

Crouching in the road waiting for the lemur to begin their crossing balet. I set my shutter speed high to freeze them while they are moving. The sun was low so my ISO was high. And we waited.

Most of my compositions had the road in the shot but this little guy hopped up and the forest was in the background making a great contrast.
